Being fit and healthy is the motto of everybody in these days with women being no exception. Running, walking and other mild exercise can be done on your own but for quick results you have to join a gym. Mild exercise is for routine fitness while training in the gym with weights improves muscle tone. Earlier it was believed that intense training would mean a bulky body with bulging muscles. This is a myth.
If you want to tone your body and waist line, weight training is necessary. This should be done only under the supervision of a qualified physical trainer as working with weights requires proper muscle coordination. Wrong technique will result in injury or back ache. The larger muscles of the body should be exercised and strengthened as they will help to burn the largest amount of calories.
When you go to a gym, the trainer will measure the circumference of your arms and legs and as well as your waist. Then he will tell you the weights you should work with which will target the main muscles and help you to tone your trouble spots. Soon your basal metabolic rate will increase. This means that your body will burn more calories in a shorter period of time. Even when you stop exercising the rate of calorie burning will remain high.
After some time you will notice that your dress size is decreasing although there may not be a noticeable change in your weight. This is because your body fat is being converted into muscles. Muscle is twenty percent denser than fat. This means that although muscle is heavier, it occupies less space. As your body fat decreases, there will be a reduction in your weight as well.
There is a misconception that women who exercise with weight develop a muscular body akin to men and begin to look manly. This is certainly not true. Women lack the hormone testosterone which is necessary to develop muscles like biceps and triceps. Also women do not have the cross-sectional muscle mass that men have.
So it is clear that women need not limit themselves to light weight training which needs to be repeated endlessly. They can and should do the same weight training that men do. This will bring about an improvement in their muscle tone and shape of body. They will achieve the goal they want. So go ahead and train with heavier weights. You will not lose your feminity.
