You have to apply red eye shadow with care because it is bound to draw attention to your eyes. If age is not on your side, go in for matte eye shadow. Don’t try a shimmery product as it will show up wrinkles more. As always, clean your face and moisturise it. A hydrated skin holds up makeup well and presents an attractive look. You can even spray some water on your face.

To apply red eye shadow, follow these steps-

• Apply a good eye cream around the eyes especially near the lower and upper eyelid. Leave it for a few minutes so that it minimises eye bags and other flaws.

• Cover up fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes using a concealer. Then apply foundation.

• Apply eye primer from lash line to brow line. Allow it to be absorbed. Then apply a base. Use a thin brush so all areas of the eyelid are covered.

• You can apply a combination of pink and red colors. Start by applying pink eye shadow near the lash line. Then mix pink and red shadow with a large brush and apply upwards to the rest of the eye lid.

• Another way is to rim the eyes. Use a small angled brush to apply red eye shadow near the eye lashes. For a striking effect, apply till the crease of the eyelid. Smoothen and blend the edges.

• If you want a dramatic effect, apply dark red color on the eyelash line and the top of the eye lid.

• Use creamy black eyeliner to make a line near the eyelash line on the top eyelid. Smudge it into the top lash line. This will create a smoky effect.

• Use the same liner on the bottom lash line but it should be only from the corner of the eye to half way on the eye.

• Use a shear highlighter on the brow and inner corner of the eye.

• If using during the day, just curl your eye lashes and use transparent mascara. For night time black mascara can be used.

Keep the makeup on your cheeks and lips understated or the effect will be overpowering and look inappropriate. You just need a little bit of courage and élan to carry off red eye shadow and you are sure to make heads turn.

• Clean your face thoroughly so that the film of oil on it is removed especially around the eyes and eyelids. Choose an alcohol based toner to reduce the oiliness. Many products are available which are meant specifically for oily skin so make use of them.

• Apply foundation ten minutes after you apply moisturiser. This will give time to the skin to absorb the moisturiser and present a drier surface. Choose a cake foundation which is silicon based. It will absorb more oil. Apply powder around the eyes to absorb any remaining oil.

• If you do not want to use foundation and powder on the eyelids, you can use primer eye shadow. Cover your entire eyelid with eye shadow powder. This will be your primary color which will stand out the most. Then you can use a lighter color above it and below the brow. This will make eye shadow last longer on the eyelids.

• Opt for loose powder eye shadow rather than pressed powder eye shadow as the former has more capability to absorb oil. It will give a more natural look. A large quantity of pressed powder eye shadow will have to be applied and when mixed with oil from the skin it will give a cakey look.

• Another way to keep your eye makeup from looking messy is to apply a highlight just below your eyebrow following its natural shade. Apply some highlight to the corner of your eyelid too.

• Preferably use liquid eyeliner. A pencil liner is easy to use and less messy but it does not last long on oily skin. A liquid liner has four times more staying capacity. Many different shades like black, brown and blue are available.

• Use water proof mascara. It will be able to with stand sweat and oil more. Apply a coat of mascara on both upper and lower lashes. Let it dry and apply another coat. This will give a dramatic effect. For an intense look apply a layer of foundation followed by a dark eye shadow and liquid liner on the eyes.

It all depends on your mood and the look you want to achieve. Almost everybody can carry of neutral colors like browns and greys, but you have to be careful when using brighter colors. Dark eyeliner can actually make your eyes look smaller. Eyeliner should compliment your hair. If you have dark hair use black or grey liner, for blonde and red hair choose light to medium brown shades.

There are two ways of applying eyeliner and it can either be dark or it can be heavy. As the name suggests, dark eye liner is dark and two coats of eyeliner are used. It is a thin crisp line. In heavy eyeliner it is smudged and seems blended in the eye shadow.

If you want the dark eyeliner look, then this is how to go about it. Apply a neutral shade on the entire brow and eyelid. Then apply a darker shade of the same color to the eyelid only. Begin at the inner eyelid and move outward. Blend the two shades with a small brush so that there are no separating lines. Then take a pencil liner and draw a thin line close to the lash line. Go over this line with a liquid liner of the same color as the pencil. Apply two coats of mascara in a shade that is similar to the liner. This completes the look.

For the thick liner look apply a lighter and then a darker shade of eye shadow as described above. Then apply a third darker shade on the crease by dabbing some color on the outer corner of the eyelid and the lash line. Now it is time to apply the eye liner. Use a creamy liner as it needs to be smudged with a brush. Blend it a little into the eye shadow. Apply another layer of the same liner but do not smudge it. Apply a thin line of the creamy liner to the bottom lash line and smudge it a little. Next apply two coats of mascara.

For this style avoid overly bright colors. You need great élan to carry the style.

Daily use of makeup and makeup removers harms the hair follicles. Plucking and shaving the eyebrow over a long period of time also has a detrimental effect. Some other factors like poor diet and menopause cause thinning of the eyebrow and are also responsible for slow growth of the hair.

When wanting to grow the eyebrows, the first consideration is eating a well balanced diet which is rich in protein. This will help in quicker hair growth. Leave the hair untouched till it grows back fully. It is tempting to pull out a few hairs to shape the eyebrow but it should be resisted. This action will slow down the growth and inadvertently you may pull out more hair than necessary and be back to square one. Patience is a great virtue in this case.

Some people advise the use of ludicrous products to promote hair growth and offer them at high prices. Do not become prey to their marketing. It is better to try out cheaper products to lubricate your eyebrows to help them grow. Castor and olive oil are two good choices to grow eyebrows darker and thicker naturally. They may take some time to bring about a change but they are safe.

Minoxidil solution and retinoic acid can be used to repair the hair follicles. They work by enlarging the hair follicle so that a thick and healthy hair can grow from it. These medicines can be used by gentle application with cotton wool and then covered with petroleum jelly.

A drastic method is to go in for cosmetic surgery to transplant hair from the head to the eyebrow. This procedure may take a couple of months. This will vary according to the number of hair to be transplanted. A natural eyebrow is formed by introducing black pigment in the skin. Then the hair is transplanted. The time taken to heal is about two months.

It is best to maintain a healthy life style, abstaining from smoking and drinking and let nature regenerate the hair in your eyebrow.

Though it is possible to tweeze one’s own hair but it will be better if you could avail the services of some other person may be your friend or sister. If you are doing it yourself stand before a mirror, if someone is doing for you better lie down in her lap so that she can handle you properly.

To decide the point from which the hairs are to be removed, take a pencil put it in vertical position so that it touches your nose at the broadest point. At the point the outer side of the pencil touch eyebrows, mark a point this is starting point of your eyebrows. After this keep the pencil in the horizontal position so that it is along with your eyes and touch your eyebrows. Mark this point this being the outer point of eyebrows. The eyebrows are to be made in the shape of an arc. To decide about the uppermost point of the arc look straight in the mirror opposite you. The point where your eyeball is, this is the uppermost point of the eyebrow.

Connecting these points you can mark the area outside which the hair is to be plucked and decide about the thickness of eyebrows. Dip the towel or the cotton ball in hot water and keep it on your eyebrows so that the skin become soft, this will take about five minutes.

Once done, again look at the outline drawn earlier and start plucking hair between the two brows. At a time pluck one hair with a rapid motion of hand. While plucking using the hand which is free stretch your skin with the help of thumb and one finger. This will make plucking easy. Once the area between the two eyebrows is clear of hair, pluck the rest of the eyebrow, continuing from inner end to outer end.

When done use the eyebrow brush to comb the hair, this should be done in the direction of growth of hair. If still some hair is seen outside the line, pluck them. Repeat the process on the other eyebrow. When both the eyebrows have been done apply some astringent with the help of cotton ball. If you see excessive redness at the points from which the hair have been plucked apply some ice before applying astringent. Repeat at short intervals.

There is no fool proof way to rectify this save waiting for the hair to grow again. It will take a couple of weeks. Some companies manufacturing beauty products offer quick fix solutions in the form of creams and lotions which guarantee quick hair growth. This is mainly clever marketing to make you buy products full of chemicals and fill the company’s coffers. The majority of these formulations do not work.

While waiting for your eyebrows to re-grow, avoid the temptation to pluck any straggling hairs. If you pluck one hair, then you are liable to pluck a few more at another time. This will be an exercise in futility. Wait patiently for the entire eyebrow to grow.

In the mean time keep your face clean by washing it in the morning and before going to bed. This will keep at bay any bacteria that may clog hair follicles. Use a good moisturiser as well. Eat a well balanced diet which is rich in protein to promote hair growth. This is important if your hair is growing at a slow rate.

To tide over the time, you can take the help of eyebrow pencil. Use it to fill in any hairless patches. Eyebrow pencils are easily available and come in different shades. Start with a color that is a shade lighter than your natural shade. Make small feathery strokes to simulate hair. You can practice drawing them on your wrist.

However, if you have very little hair left in your eyebrows, you will need a pencil that is closest to your natural hair shade. Draw small light strokes with a darker pencil at first and once you have got the shape you want, fill in with the lighter coloured pencil. You should be gentle especially near the edges or the eyebrows will look artificial and painted.

Now a product is available which can help you to draw a proper shaped eyebrow. It is a plastic or a silicon sheet with an eyebrow cut out. Place it on your eyebrow and fill in the shape with an eyebrow pencil. You can use it daily so that they look the same every day. Once your eyebrows grow back, you can use it to shape them. Place this sheet on your eyebrow and use powder to fill it in then remove the hair that is outside the powdered shape and you will have well shaped eyebrows.

There is a misconception in the mind of some people that by shaving the hair growth will increase and the new hair will be thicker than the original ones. This is not correct. By shaving the thickness of the hair does not increase. However it is a fact that the re-growth is faster as compared to waxing or threading. In the latter case the roots of the hair are plucked off. In case of shaving only outer part of hair is cut and growth is faster. It is also a fact that shaving is not painful but other methods involve pain and sometimes women develop rashes.

Before you start shaving your eyebrows, it is necessary that you have in mind the shape that you will like to have and which will suit you the most. Once ready buy a sharp razor and an eyebrow pencil. The color of the pencil should match the color of your hair.

To start with stand before a mirror, place the pencil vertically, it should touch the broadest point of your nose. Mark the point where the outer part of the pencil touches the eyebrows line, this is the starting point. Now place the pencil horizontally on the level of the eyes. One end should touch the nose and mark the outer point where the eye ends. This will be the point where the eyebrow should end. Also remember that the eyebrow should be in the shape of an arc with the topmost point being in line with the eyeball.

In case of normal eyes the inner point should be roughly three times the thickness of the outer part. However if the eyes are too close the thickness of the eyebrows should not be more than a centimetre. In case of the centred eyes the thickness at the outer and inner end should be the same.

Once clear about the shape and size, using the pencil draw the outline and using a sharp razor shave off the excess hair. If necessary, repeat the process on daily basis, as it is not too time consuming and least painful.

Three methods are generally used for this purpose. These are with tweezers, by waxing and threading. Use of any method depends upon each individual, but none of them is a permanent method.

Tweezing is quite an old method of removing unwanted eye hair. By this method, unwanted hair is pulled up from eyebrow to provide proper shape. This is not a permanent method and hair start re-growing within a few days. Some people are of the opinion that some moisturiser should be applied to reduce pain, but others opine that talcum powder works better. Moisturiser may reduce the plucking efficiency as the tweezers could slip. The advantage of this method is that it can be tried at home and no help is needed, with practice one achieves perfection and can shape eyebrows as per ones one liking. Also it is cost efficient and involves only one time cost of purchase of tweezers. In initial stages one may pinch own skin resulting in wounds so one needs to be careful.

The second method is waxing. This is generally practiced to remove hair from legs and arms. Eyebrows are in a prominent place and can seen by every person looking and talking to you, so waxing of eyelashes needs  great perfection and should be done by a trained beautician. By this method hair takes about 6 weeks to grow and the growth is not very thick. Waxing may be associated with swelling or redness in the area. Remember to apply proper mineral oil on the effected part. Now a kit containing plastic cut outs of perfectly shaped eyebrows are available, along with a fine powder. This is placed on the eyebrow and darkened with the powder. What is left undarkened is the extra hair on which wax can be applied and they can be pulled off.

These days most commonly used method of shaping the eyebrows is by threading. This is practiced by a trained beautician and one cannot try it on oneself. By this method the hair takes 4-5 weeks to re-grow and the new hair are light and fine. There are no side effects associated with this. The unwanted hairs are removed with the help of a thread by trained person proper shape. Often even first time triers say that no pain is associated with this process. The disadvantage of this and waxing method is that these mean recurring cost.

To start with, let’s say you are going out wearing a silver white evening gown. You might as well choose to boil down on a silver colored eye shadow which would blend pretty well with the dress and your complexion, both at the same time.
