Does Facial Exercise Work?

As a person grows older, the skin starts losing elasticity, getting loose and sagging. As a result of this, wrinkles and frown lines start appearing on the face. To tone up the skin exercise of facial muscles is a way out. The other way is to get plastic surgery done. Plastic surgery is quite painful and involves a lot of cost. Some of the experts are of the view that exercises do not have much effect on the face, but the other school of thought is of the view that these do help.

Appearance of sagging skin or wrinkles is a cause of worry. Exercise is a technique which helps to firm up facial skin to some extent, and spending some time on it is worthwhile. As is the case with every exercise, facial exercise increases the amount of supply of oxygen to the facial muscles. This increased supply of oxygen helps to rejuvenate the skin cells. The face starts to look healthy, bright, smooth and younger. Facial exercise also causes lymphatic drainage, making the skin look less puffy.

Facial exercise, though a slow process, is more lasting if continued regularly. In contrast, surgical process is temporary. The gravitational effect on the skin does effect and the sagging process starts again after a few years of surgery. Facial exercises have been in existence much before the surgical process came into being. Before starting the exercises, it is necessary to understand how these exercises affect your face muscles and whether they are beneficial to you or not. Some specific yoga asana and pranayama are really helpful to keep the skin young and wrinkle free. Once assured, the future course of action has to be adopted.

Facial exercises involve manipulation of your face in different ways and positions. For complete exercise, you need to spend about half an hour each day. When the muscles get stimulated you can shift to the maintenance mode and practice for three days a week. Certain stimulators are now available in the market. You have to put on a mask on your face, connect it with electric current and let it do its job. This will be slightly faster method.

Facial exercise is a slow process and one should not expect instant results. Wrinkles may take a lot of time to fade out. Wrinkles are caused when inner muscles are unable to support the skin. The facial muscles being small in size will take longer time to get fully toned.  The advantage is that the exercise can be done at any place on your own without any special equipment and at no cost. The benefits are there and will become apparent slowly.
